Remembering Becky Ishii: Donate to the Cypress College Foundation Memorial Scholarship Endowment

Becky Ishii, a cherished member of the La Palma community, passed away suddenly due to liver cancer. Though her diagnosis was unexpected, Becky was a strong and sharp presence until her final days. Her passing has left a void in the lives of her husband, Cliff Ishii, daughter Kami, and many family and friends.

In honor of Becky’s memory, the Ishii Family has requested that donations be made to the Cypress College Foundation Becky Ishii Memorial Scholarship Endowment, in lieu of flowers. Your contribution will help us support students and keep Becky’s name alive for generations to come.

Becky was an instrumental member of the Cypress College Foundation Board of Directors and was awarded the 2007 Americana Citizen of the Year alongside her husband, Cliff. She was a natural leader and dedicated much of her life to serving her community.

Becky’s passion for education was evident from a young age. She served as the sophomore class president in high school, where she met Cliff. After transferring to Cal State University, Fullerton, she earned her degree in Speech Communication. Becky went on to work for the Orange County Housing Authority, substitute teach in the Anaheim Union High School District, and eventually take on a leadership role in Cliff’s family business.

As their daughter Kami grew up, Becky became more involved in education. She served as president of the PTA at Luther Elementary, Walker Junior High, and Kennedy High School, as well as the Anaheim Secondary PTA Council. She was also appointed to the Anaheim Union High School District Superintendent’s Advisory Committee and held various offices as a member of the Cypress Elementary PTA Council for a decade.

Becky’s dedication to education extended beyond the PTA. She served on school site councils at Luther, Walker, and JFK High School for a total of 11 years and was a member of the Kennedy Choir Boosters. Becky also volunteered as a chaperone on field trips and choir tours and continued to support the school even after her daughter graduated.

Cypress College Foundation Operational Support Expense Policy
The operational support expense covers the cost to operate the scholarship program, fundraising activities, community relations, and general foundation operations. The Cypress College Foundation shall receive a five (5) percent operational support expense for all temporarily restricted and campaign contributions. Pass-through gifts to named scholarships are exempt from the policy. The operational support expense may be adjusted based on the purpose and size of the gift at the Boards discretion. A donor may elect to make an additional donation to cover the expense based on the amount of the original contribution.
